Arising Competition The current Guinness World Record holders is Floatzilla who Floatfest is routinely in contact with and we share a brotherly relationship, promoting each other and offering support from across the ocean. In 2016 Canoe WA followed suit and decided to hold their Unite on the Swan event a few weeks after the 2016 Floatfest – they took out our SA title beating our record numbers.
The challenge was heard and the Floatfest team began thinking of new ways to encourage more participation by incorporating new records into the event, growing the program and developing more aspects into the event e.g. the Murray Bridge Kite Festival. Floatfest’s first step was to change location, whilst the support from the Mid Murray Council at Mannum was first class, Floatfest had outgrown Mary Ann Reserve. Discussions began with the Rural City of Murray Bridge to bring Floatfest to Sturt Reserve for 2017 and 2018.
In February 2017 Unite on the Swan raised its beak again to announce that they too would be holding their event on Sunday April 9th 2017 – definitely a challenge on our hands now! Paddles to the ready! Have we got your attention?
