ENCOUNTER PADDLING CLUB MAY 2017 TIME TRIAL RESULTS
A brisk, overcast day welcomed the 32 paddlers who arrived to contest the 5th Time Trial of the 2017 Series 1. Again, we enjoyed the presence of an 11 strong contingent from the Holdfast Canoe Club.
Line honours went to EPC’s Emma Sirona-MacDonald, a relative new comer the sport, closely followed 3 seconds behind by John Hurrell (EPC) with John Razzano (HCC) completing the podium. Nineteen paddlers including two doubles came in under scratch, perhaps the continuing improvement a testament to benefits of training for the RPM in a month or so. That said, the paddlers who competed in the first 19 km stage of the Back to Back at Murray Bridge the previous day not surprisingly appeared to have been suffering some residual weariness.
Leanne McKenzie has moved 1 point past son Kane Cody on the Points Leader Board with Phil Dingsdale a further 3 points behind. At this stage, any of the top 6 on the Leader Board could take out the coveted bragging rights with Emma Sirona-MacDonald and Leanne McKenzie being the favourites (no pressure girls!). Interestingly, a total 65 paddlers have earned points so far this series and, with the Riverland Paddle Marathon the week after the next Time Trial, an increase can be anticipated.
Thanks to Phil Dingsdale for setting the course buoys and to Clare Dingsdale and Jodie Byerlee for time keeping and race recording.
The next time trial is on Sunday 4th June.
Cheers and good paddling in the meantime,
